Get Your Questions Answered on Silverlight TV
Silverlight Sunday, January 17 2010The first episode of Silverlight TV is in the books. A special thank you to Keith Smith for coming on and doing a fantastic job and to everyone who watched our show! The planning for many future episodes is under way. One of the plans is to have take the questions we receive from Twitter to @SilverlightTV, find the appropriate resource, and read (and where appropriate) demonstrate the answers on the show. So if you have any technical questions please forward them to @SilverlightTV and we will organize some of them for future shows. For example, I am going to shoot some shows next week on MEF so if you have a questions such as “how do you filter exportable components using MEF?”, this would be an ideal time to get these questions in. We will try to get your questions in the show, but of course we cannot promise depending on time, number of questions we receive and if the topic is being covered.
The upcoming schedule is looking like we will have a few shows on these topics (subject to change as guest schedules allow):
- Multi-Touch
- MEF
- RIA Services
- Silverlight HVP
- Design in Blend
- Splash screen creation
- XAP size management
- Panel discussion on general Silverlight questions
- New text features in Silverlight
- MVVM
If you have topics you wish to see please feel free to comment at @SilverlightTV. There is a lot to cover and we’ll do our best to find some great guests: some you know well and others you really should know!
Thanks for watching Silverlight TV!

John in your talk re MEF can you give us some idea where PRISM fits with MEF I am completely confused as to which technology to use. My main goal is to find something that I can create a very large silverlight app lets say an ERP and I can break it up in to seperate xaps so that it is smaller. I did have a solution however it just had one main xap and then the other modules were dll's which of course were not zipped. Oh and did I mention it should use browser cache when required. ta

Hi John;
I suggest that you align the MEF discussion along with Prism 4, Since these two are going to be interrelated and should be discussed where they compliment each other and where they overlap and which one to be used.
To be honest with you, I think this subject without the presence of RIA discussion, will not be complete. Any real app is going to need data access and this layer should be counted into this MVVM discussion. You can break it down into several videos, but they should finish one complete subject rather each independently.
John, this idea of SL.TV is a GREAT idea and I hope it doesn't get dropped. It saves so much time in comparison with reading blogs. Thank you for your great contribution!

Ben - Thanks for the feedback. I definately want to get some shows on how to work with MEF + Prism + RIA Services + MVVM. That would be a tough show to get into a 10-15 minute slot ... so I expect we'll do a series of shows where each talks about 1 part of it. The first MEF shows talk through the fundamentals of MEF.
So yeah, we'll hit all of these topics! Thanks for the great feedback and for watching!

How can I get the show to stay full screen while working on another monitor?

Steve - I will make sure we discuss where Prism and MEF fit together (and where they do not) in a future show. I think we will have a lot of talks like this in the future. We'll have a few MEF foundations shows first to get everyone on the same page tho.
Graeme - You can download the video for the show and open it in WIndows Media player.
Thanks for watching!

Hi, I know quite a bit about WPF and the concepts surrounding Silverlight.
What I would like to know is why would you go down the route of writing an out-of-browser application, with elevated permissions, instead of a WPF application?
Many thanks
Steve
